President Halimah Yacob Thanks Chingay50 Performers, Sponsors and Partners @Istana

President Halimah Yacob invited performers, sponsors and partners of this year’s Chingay to the Istana on 16 February to show appreciation for their efforts at the Chingay showcase. In her speech, President Halimah said this year was a special milestone as Chingay's 50th anniversary was commemorated and that over the years, it had become Singapore's signature multicultural event.

Chingay50 Lights Up Jewel Vortex Over 500 performers from Singapore and around the world came together to perform acts of song, dance and more for Chingay's 50th Parade. Jewel Changi Airport's HSBC Rain Vortex was surrounded by all the performers and illuminated throughout the 1 Hour and 30 Minute performance.

Chingay Mama Shop Chingay Parade has not just moved its performances online this year, but also created a one stop shop with the Chingay Mama Shop. With the return of the Chingay Mama Shop, the public may support local businesses and brands by purchasing from over 50 merchants through Lazada's "Mama Shop", where a portion of the proceeds will go to charity.

Seasoned Chingay Performer Hopes Chingay May Return To Live Audiences

At 62 years old, Mdm Teo Cheng Kam has been part of 6 Chingay Parades, first performing in 1976 when she was 16 years old. She joined with her classmates to form a cheerleading team. Due to the restrictions of COVID-19, the event has been held online for the last 2 years. Mdm Teo Cheng Kam hopes the endemic will end soon as the Chingay atmosphere feels different online and offline.

Chingay50 Live Tonight Chingay's 50th Parade is held at Jewel Changi this year. The event will livestream across various platforms for the audience to watch with an integration of special effects and community participation to bring a wonderful experience onto the screen. During the 1 hour 30 minute program, there will be a mix of traditional and modern elements to the performances.

Witnessing Chingay's 50 Year Journey Chingay50 Artistic Director, Mr Fan Dong Kai, shared that the parade to commemorate Chingay's 50th anniversary was like the 50 year progression of a person's life. It began from the youthful soul of a baby, which grew under the care and help of society, to one that was brave and confident to face the challenges of the future.

Chingay: 50 Years and Counting

The Chingay parade would be held at Jewel Changi Airport on 12 February 2022. Chairman of Chingay50 Committee and Group Director of PA Kia Siang Wei, said the parade would showcase Chingay’s 50-year journey since it started in 1973. He hoped Singaporeans would resonate with the Chingay spirit and be encouraged to pursue their passions, unleash their potential and fulfil their aspirations.

For choreographer Mr Osman Abdul Hamid and his understudy Mr Zairin Abdul Latiff, it displays the traditional aspects of Malay dance with a modern twist.

Chingay50's 50 Meter Dragon From 1975 till present day, Sin Chew Dragon Lion Sports, which has participated in more than 30 years of Chingay's history, continues to innovate. This year will show the "鸳鸯彩云变形龙", a dragon designed specially for Chingay50 with an impressive feature; It can extend from 18 meters long to 50 meters long in just 20 seconds.

Chingay50 We Got Talent!

This year's We Got Talent event received a resounding response with more than 600 people. The public participated in the event by filming a one minute video to share their talents. Out of the multitude of entries, our winner, Joshua Low was crowned Chingay Community Star 2022 for his skilled saxophone performance. At just 13 years old, his rendition of Easy On Me by Adele wowed us all.

Chingay50 @Jewel Changi Airport On 28 January 2022, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong announced on his socials that Chingay would take place at Jewel Changi Airport 8pm on Saturday, 12 February 2022. Mr Kia Siang Wei, Chingay50 Exco Chairman and Group Director at PA said the parade would document how Chingay has come a long way from its origins as a humble street procession in 1973.

Chingay's 50th Anniversary - Launch of Chingay50 Buses

In conjunction with Chingay's 50th anniversary, 20 public buses with designs based on past Chingay parade floats will be on the roads around our island from 25 January to 27 March 2022 for commuters to get into the Chingay spirit when they board. The buses feature 14 designs, including a commissioned design by local artist Sam Lo, for the 50th edition.

Chingay50 As the Chingay Parade enters its 50th anniversary, the theme 'Ignite Our Dreams’ for Chingay50 seeks to engage audiences with innovative presentations of the arts, culture and heritage. Alongside the live performance, which will be live streamed on 12 February 2022, there is also a series of community programmes to encourage residents to take part in.
